MEDICAL MARIJUANA, PRO AND CON

To the Editor:

Re "The Politics of Pot" (editorial, April 22): The Food and Drug
Administration says it wants to be sure that medications undergo the
rigorous scientific scrutiny of the F.D.A. approval process. Really?
What about Plan B, the "morning after" contraceptive pill?

It went through the scrutiny for over-the-counter use, but the agency
ignored its own advisory committee and failed to approve it.

The F.D.A. seems very eager to invoke scientific studies when it
agrees with the results. Otherwise, it pretends that the evidence
doesn't exist.
