FILM SHOOT ON LOCAL DRUG PROBLEM

Film crews are a common sight in Maple Ridge, but it's not often those
film crews are documenting local issues. Until now.

Alouette Addictions executive director Ron Lawrance has announced that
Maple Ridge will provide the backdrop for a new documentary to focus
on the problems youth face when it comes to drug addiction.

Vancouver-based film maker Mike Neitzel, known for documentaries
including Wrath of the Dragon and Death By Jib, will be behind the
lens.

"The focus will be a realistic look at what our youth are up against
on a daily basis in relation to substance abuse," Lawrance said.

"The goal is that this will become an educational tool for teens, for
parents and for community groups."

According to Lawrance, Neitzel has indicated surprise at the fact the
film hasn't already been made, and suspects that this work "will be
his masterpiece."

While yet untitled, the film, he said, will tell the whole
story.

"The things that the rest of us have been guessing at, we'll let the
youth tell us through their eyes."

To make the film a reality, Alouette Addictions must raise $15,000 by
October, the date the film is set to be released.

To get things started, a silent auction has been launched.

Two pieces of art have been donated to the auction; one, which was
donated by Lordco, is a limited edition Bev Doolittle print entitled
Music in the Wind, and can be viewed at Bella Vita Restaurant, 22471
Lougheed Hwy.

To make a donation to the silent auction or to inquire about volunteer
opportunities, call Alouette Addictions at 467-5179.
