MESSAGE OF HOPE FOR A DRUG FREE LIFE

PARRY SOUND - On Tuesday Alvin Powell spoke at three shows on drug
abuse and prevention in Parry Sound. The shows were held at William
Beatty Public School and Parry Sound High School.

Mr. Powell is a former NFL all-star player who's run-in with drugs
cost him his career and nearly his life.

The feedback from the children that attended the presentations were
very positive. Mr. Powell's love for children was apparent, as he took
the time to sign over 1,500 autographs that day.

Community Strength

His message for these children and parents that attended the evening
talk was one of hope. He talked about the things that are needed to
keep children drug free. At one point, he commented that a strong
community is a key factor. Over 1,500 children and over 100 parents
attended the three shows. Mr. Powell also noted that Parry Sound did
not have an establishment for children to keep them busy; such as a
YMCA.

He also said that strength is in numbers and that HART (Helping
Addicts Restore Themselves) is made up of just four committee members
and yet they were able to raise enough funds to bring him to the area;
imagine the group's success if more parents came on board.

Mr. Powell runs a foundation out of Montreal and has dedicated his
life to helping kids who are addicted to drugs, because he believes
they all deserve the chance to live a happy, healthy, drug-free life.

This powerful message delivered by Mr. Powell was enjoyed by kids and
adults alike.
