HOW TO DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS

Altona Red River Valley Echo -- Are you a parent intimidated by the
increasing prevalence of crystal meth, or the statistics that show
many teenagers smoke marijuana? Are you afraid it could be creeping
into your home?

If that's you, or if you simply want to equip yourself to drug proof
your kids, the Altona Recreation Department has a program that might work.

Grace Braun said a new program called "How to Drug Proof Your Kids"
is being launched April 11, and will run for six weeks every Tuesday.

"It's a new program for Altona," she said. "We felt there was a need."

Led by Terry Fehr, of the Carman Youth Drop-in Centre, the program
focuses on keeping kids away from drugs, and learning to identify the
warning signs.

Braun said the course teaches parents how to communicate, look for
signs of drug use, and work towards giving teenagers a drug free
life. "We are encouraging parents to open their eyes and educate
themselves in theses matters," she said.

Although interest has been slow to build, Braun said she isn't
worried just yet, adding the program has already proven itself in
other communities.

"Morden and Winkler both filled (the course)," she said. "They had an
excellent response."

The course costs $75 per couple. For more information call the Rec.
office at 324-9005.
