WHAT MESSAGE IS SENT?

To the Editor,

Re: Up to 200 acres to be seeded in hemp

I am thrilled to hear that hemp is being grown, and hope to see more
growing across the nation. But I am surprised the anti-drug groups and
RCMP are not fussing over this. I expect them to say things like
"Should we not be worried that growing hemp might send the wrong
message to youth about marijuana?

If we suddenly start growing hemp for food, fibre, polymers, building
materials, fuel, or any of its other 25,000 industrial applications,
kids might not believe us when we tell them that marijuana is dangerous.

Will this 200 acres of hemp ever be mistaken for a pot farm by
over-zealous drug cops looking to make a name for themselves? We'll
have to wait and see.
