COLLIER SHERIFF'S DEPUTY ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE

A Collier County sheriff's lieutenant -- already charged with DUI
involving a controlled substance -- was arrested Thursday afternoon
on prescription drug-related charges.

Lt. Scott Anderson is charged with three counts of withholding
information from a practitioner in an attempt to obtain controlled substances.

He was booked into the Collier County Jail, where his bail was set at $15,000.

Anderson made bail later Thursday.

Detectives said the alleged crimes happened between Feb. 6 and Feb. 14.

Investigators said that all of the prescribed drugs contain opiate
derivatives and are for pain management.

According to state law, it is illegal "to withhold information from a
practitioner from whom the person seeks to obtain a controlled
substance or a prescription for a controlled substance that the
person making the request has received a controlled substance or a
prescription for a controlled substance of like therapeutic use from
another practitioner within the previous 30 days."

Anderson has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of a
Professional Responsibility Bureau internal investigation.

At the request of Sheriff Don Hunter, the Florida Department of Law
Enforcement has conducted an outside and impartial review of the
evidence in this case.

A few weeks ago, Anderson was charged with DUI after a car crash in
Naples. State Highway Patrol troopers said they found prescription
drugs in his car.
