GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT ABOUT MEDICINAL MARIJUANA

In regard to Mike Monahan's letter, Your Views, Feb. 9, it has always
amazed me how often people write the editor with opinions masquerading
as facts.

First of all, there is no "state issued" user card for medicinal
marijuana, with or without a doctor's prescription. The law is
primarily interpreted by each county's law enforcement system. This
causes a great deal of confusion for medical professionals and patients.

Second, there are plenty of doctors who will recommend medicinal
marijuana in writing when it is appropriate. In general, counties
require written recommendations to verify a patient's claim.

According to many trained, experienced and reputable medical doctors,
marijuana is an accepted and preferred treatment for some conditions,
and is best utilized with the advice and assistance of a doctor.
Proposition 215 recognizes this and was passed by the voters of
California. So, please, let's take the politics and the police out of
our doctor's offices and let them do their job.
