LESS 'COOL' NEEDED

We are all deeply saddened by the recent tragic death of one of the
Westwood Junior students. It's a real shock, and I am very sorry for
the family.

It is quite apparent that we, as a community, need to band together
to provide a safe and healthy environment in which all our children
can grow and prosper.

As our kids go through the minefield that is 'high school', complete
with the pitfalls of temptation and pressures to be 'cool', it
appears that guidance and supervision is even more essential then
ever. We need more 'school' and less 'cool'.

By coincidence at this time, Westwood High School is starting an
initiative to include parents in an Educational Project. This project
aims at forming a joint effort as parents, educators, and leaders of
our community, to help guide our youth towards an enriched, well
educated, and healthy life. I applaud this effort, and hope that many
of us will get involved to provide our children with the respect and
guidance they need during the teenage years, towards becoming a
well-rounded citizen in the future.
