DRUG DEALER CONVICTION SENDS STRONG MESSAGE

Provincial Court Judge John Reilly Sent a Message Earlier This Month
to Anyone Looking to Traffic Cocaine in the Cochrane RCMP Detachment
Area -- Don't.

Citing a serious medical condition known as excited delirium that
has resulted in deaths, Reilly sentenced Gurmit Singh Kamoh of
Calgary to three years in prison for trafficking in cocaine at
Cochrane Provincial Court on Oct. 17. He said the condition is a
reason why people who traffic in cocaine must be dealt with
more seriously by the courts.

Court heard that on Nov. 26, 2005, Cochrane RCMP responded to a rave
in Springbank where Kamoh had been detained. Court heard he was
found in possession of 30 grams of crack cocaine wrapped in separate
one gram packaging that he was attempting to sell to other party-goers.

He was also found with over $1,200 in his possession, which he
admitted to police was proceeds from his sales that night.

While Kamoh's defence lawyer tried to downplay the trafficking by
noting he was only selling the drug from $20 a gram, Reilly noted
that meant he would have sold between 60-80 grams on the night.

Kamoh was also issued a mandatory 10-year firearms prohibition and
forfeited $1,235 to the Crown.

Kamoh had no prior drug arrests.
