METH FORUMS TO BE HELD IN NEW WEST NEXT MONTH

Two crystal methamphetamine forums are being held in New Westminster
this month to educate parents and youth on the dangers of a drug that
is becoming increasingly popular in the Royal City.

The crystal meth awareness forums are being Nov. 2 at Glenbrook
middle school and Nov. 16 at Massey Theatre. All of the forums begin
at 6:30 p.m.

Speakers include former addicts now recovering, drug counsellors who
work with addicts and police and counsellors who can describe the
extent of meth use in the city and schools.

Meth is highly addictive and has long-term consequences to users.
Physical effects can include insomnia, chest pain, nausea, seizures
and convulsions. Mental affects include anxiety and nervousness,
panic attacks, visual and tactile illusions and psychosis.

Organizers of the forums include representatives from the community,
the City of New Westminster, the Fraser Health Authority, New
Westminster School District, New Westminster Mental Health and
Fraserside Community Services. Funding for the forums came from the
provincial government.

Admission to the forums is free but organizers suggest people
pre-register by calling 604-517-6345 and tell them which forum you will attend.
