CRYSTAL METH

Editor:

I agree with the website (www.leap.cc) mentioned in the letters to the
Editor about Crystal Meth, that legalizing drugs would probably reduce
organized crime and that legal alcohol is more dangerous than some
illegal drugs.

I am still not convinced that legalizing drugs would reduce the harm
done to people. The two letters in last weeks review combine the
argument to legalize drugs with statements that minimize the dangers
of drugs.

Who are the writers trying to fool? Is there any adult in our society
that has not seen the devastating effects of alcohol or drugs on a
close relative or friend? Don't we all know people whose lives would
be better if they used less? So, the writers might be fooling only the
young kids by dismissing the dangers about drugs. I am thankful for
those who try to show kids that drugs and alcohol are not a necessary
part of having fun, socializing or dealing with their problems.

I support those who try to keep young people off drugs and alcohol
even if that involves a bit of fear. I support every effort to find
out and remedy why people are attracted to drug and alcohol use. I
think that if we can help kids reach adulthood without making drugs
and alcohol a part of their lives then they will be free to choose, as
mature adults, whether they want to use them or not.
