DETECTIVE SCHEDULED TO SPEAK FOR DRUG AWARENESS WEEK

Drug awareness week is fast approaching. For this occasion, WECADA 
(Weyburn Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse) has arranged for 
Detective Walton to speak to local schools from November 22 to 25. At 
this time almost every school in Weyburn has him booked, along with 
some rural schools in the area.

Workshops will be on Street Drug Awareness for Youth ages seven to 
12, teens aged 13 to 18 and parents are offered. There is also a 
presentation for parents only.

Along with the above workshops, you can also choose from a variety of 
workshops which range from two up to eight hours per workshop. These 
workshops are marihuana and cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamine, 
emerging drug trends, hallucinogens, first responders safety and 
clandestine laboratories, big five drug trends and finally street 
drug awareness.

These presentations range from 45 minutes up to 12 hours for the 
parental presentation. It is a two day course covering topics which 
include, but are not limited to physiological/ psychological 
responses, methodology of use, physical recognition skills, street 
jargon, packaging and pricing and treatment/prevention strategies.

Detective Steve Walton is a retired 25 year veteran of law 
enforcement. For the last 10 years of his career he was assigned to a 
Drug Unit. In that capacity he supervised an undercover street team 
and managed more than 120 undercover drug operation and 780 
undercover drug transactions.

Steve has published numerous articles in a variety of publications in 
Canada and the United States and is the author of the award winning, 
best selling book 'First Response Guide to Street Drugs' Volume One. 
He recently completed his second book 'Club Drugs, and Predatorial 
Chemicals; A First Response Guide to Street Drugs' Volume Two.

WECADA has been contacting businesses and organizations throughout 
Weyburn and area to see if they would like to help in sponsoring 
(either publicly or privately) Detective Walton's presentations. They
