METH TASK FORCE HOSTS EVENT

Port Alberni's crystal meth task force is hosting a family-oriented
event Thursday, Sept. 28 to bring attention to services available in
town for drug and alcohol treatment.

Healthy Families = Healthy Communities starts at 5 p.m. with a
barbecue at the Alberni Elementary School field house.

Displays from various resource organizations will be up in the field
house as well.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. crystal meth videos and presentations will take
place in a classroom for anyone wanting more information.

Although the event is presented by the crystal meth task force, the
issue of drug abuse goes well beyond crystal meth - and so does the
workshop, a task force spokesperson said.

Some of the groups that will have displays set up include DARE, Boys
and Girls Adventure Learning Camps, School District 70, Triple P
Parenting, Alberni Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Crime Stoppers,
Kuu-us Crisis Line, CAT Team to Reduce Commercial Sexual
Exploitation, Kiya Counselling, the Port Alberni Health Unit and more.

Child-minding is available in the classrooms from 5-7:15 p.m.

The highlight of the evening will be the Maxwell Baha'i Youth
Workshop, an educational performing arts group, dancing for the crowd
at 7:30 p.m.

This educational performing arts group has performed in Canada, the
U.S., China and Brazil, to name a few countries.

The youth group shares a message of unity, peace and world
citizenship with people from all walks of life.
