To The Editor:

Three letters in the Sept 3 Ogdensburg Advance News condemned Jim
Reagan's article on the deaths of Bernie Trickey and John Shannon.

None addressed the issue as to why their deaths happen.

Prohibition by the U.S. government was the cause of their deaths.
Neither died from the use of a drug.

Mr. Shannon died because the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force did
nothing to protect their informant.

Mr. Trickey would not have died if the substance were a legal
regulated product. Murder over alcohol ended when it was
re-legalized.

It's time to chart a new course in the war on drugs. A legal,
regulated, and taxed course would be relief on the taxpayer. We are
paying too much to accomplish nothing.
