THE RIGHT TO HARM YOURSELF

Dear Editor,

Regarding the article Cannabis - a soft drug? from August 25. So what
if cannabis might be harmful? That's no reason to prohibit it. Should
we ban alcohol and tobacco too?

Free adults have the right to harm themselves. We are not farm animals
under the care of a benevolent herdsman. We are human beings, with
certain inalienable rights, rights that no government can abrogate,
and these include the right to ingest any drug.

I fear that the ignorance so often exhibited these days by our media
is a natural consequence of several generations of our young being
educated (indoctrinated?) by state-run and state-financed schools.

Sincerely,

Alan Randell, Victoria
