SUPPORT THE SICK AND DYING

Thank you for your support of medical marijuana patients in San Diego
["Editorial," July 26]. You are right that dispensaries need to be
regulated here, as they are in other counties and cities in the state.
Unfortunately, our county has shirked its legal and moral
responsibilities to ill and dying San Diegans who depend on medical
marijuana for relief.

The City Council cannot do the same. Council members have been
supportive in the past, and that support is needed again now. Medical
marijuana patients have asked the City Council to consider a
resolution instructing city police to enforce local medical-marijuana
laws (not the federal prohibition). The resolution also asks the city
to come back to talk about regulations for a medical-marijuana
distribution system within city limits.

And, when the City Council returns in September, it should reassemble
the medical-marijuana task force.
