MASON GETS DOUBLE LIFE FOR MARIJUANA

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court yesterday sentenced to double
life imprisonment a mason found guilty of selling dried marijuana
leaves more than two years ago.

Branch 103 Judge Jaime Salazar Jr. found the accused, Rolando Tamayo
of Pilarin St., Bgy. Gulod, Novaliches, QC, guilty of violating
Republic Act 9165 (Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) for drug pushing and
possession.

Police collared Tamayo in his house after selling P100 worth of dried
marijuana to police assets Andres Nelson Sy and Cesar Collado of the
QC Police District Station 4 Novaliches, in a buy-bust operation on
May 17, 2003.

The police officers also confiscated from the accused a bag containing
1,491.5 grams of marijuana fruits.

The accused failed to impress the court in his testimony that there
was no buy-bust operation that took place in his house.
