SPENCER'S WORKERS SOLD HOOKAHS, POLICE SAY

HANOVER - Two teenage employees at a Hanover Mall store are facing a 
drug charge after one told an undercover police officer how to use a 
water pipe to smoke marijuana, police said.

[Name redacted], of [Address redacted] Halifax, was arrested Friday 
at Spencer's Gifts and charged with possession with intent to 
distribute drug paraphernalia,  Hanover Police Chief Paul Hayes said. 
[Name & Address redacted], Braintree, was arrested on the same charge 
in the store where she is assistant manager, Hayes said. Police 
launched an investigation after a local adult Boy Scout leader told 
them marijuana pipes were being sold at Spencer's, Hayes said. Police 
confiscated 28 of the pipes, known as hookahs, he said. Drug officer 
John Abban went to the store Thursday and struck up a conversation 
about the pipes with [Name redacted], Hayes said. They talked about 
how to use the pipes to smoke marijuana and [Name redacted] told the 
officer "they go out if the marijuana is packed too tight," Hayes 
said. Police obtained a search warrant and returned to the store at 
about 5 p.m. Friday, arresting [Names redacted] Hayes said.

"They argue they're sold for sweet tobacco and herbs, but their 
primary intent is for use smoking marijuana," said  Hayes.
