CRIME STOPPERS ENTERS 20TH YEAR

The volume of drugs seized and stolen property recovered in
Chatham-Kent were both down in 2005, according to a report released
Thursday by Crime Stoppers.

The report said police seized $6.2 million in drugs this past year,
about $1.1 million less than in 2004.

Stolen property recovered by police throughout the year totalled
$460,582, whereas the value of recovered stolen property in 2004 was
estimated to be worth $655,175.

The overall total of drugs and property seized in Chatham-Kent was
down by $1.3 million from last year to $6.696,602.

Meanwhile, police more than doubled the amount of charges laid with a
total of 1,839, as opposed to 504 in 2004.

Crime Stoppers received 67 fewer calls, but made 273 more arrests last
year, the report said.

Four hundred and eighty-one cases were cleared.

Since inception of the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers in Chatham-Kent in
January 1987, a total of $65,262,373 has been seized in drugs and property.
