Author: Dean Becker THE DRUG WAR IS NOT FOR THE CHILDREN The Drug War is NOT for the children. It is for cowards who wear badges It is for charlatans who wear black robes It is for politicians afraid of losing your vote Prohibition is a scam that robs our society at every level Prohibition ensures that every year, our law enforcement community wastes a hundred million man-hours, busting little Johnny's for bags of reefer. Millions and millions of man-hours searching trunks, under the seat, rifling through ashtrays. The effort, wasted on this drug war is enormous, outrageous. Cops, sheriffs' deputies, DEA, CIA, FBI, justice department, state police, rangers, US military, Interpol, customs, border patrol, IRS agents, forestry service, the list is endless, of those involved in "fighting" the first of the eternal wars, the war on drugs. Meantime, the child molesters, the rapists, the murderers and the terrorists only have to worry about the few members of law enforcement not currently engaged in drug traffic control, an ongoing bust, escorting pot possessors to jail, testilying in court, or working on some 18 month undercover drug sting. Behind closed doors, these politicians, judges and law enforcement personnel agree, that the drug war is a failed, hopeless policy. Yet when the corporate media puts that microphone to their mouth and that camera in their face, they revert to cannibalism. In order for them to thrive, (can't back down now,) they insist on maintaining the lie and so they continue devouring our children's lives. Drug Prohibition is not a minor issue, it is THE issue. Drug prohibition is the means, the mechanism by which bigotry still thrives in America. Drug Prohibition is the little lie that could, very soon, destroy our nation. Over the decades of the drug war, the lies of drug prohibition have become sanctified, allowed through general consensus to exist, FOR THE CHILDREN. There is no truth, justice, logic, scientific fact, medical data or any legitimate reason for this drug war to continue. The only reason it continues is the silence of the lambs, the populace so afraid to speak, so paranoid of the glaring truth that surrounds us that they remain in the grip of a taboo so powerful, a lie so convoluted that truth is dashed on a daily basis and the lies embraced with a fervor that would make any Ayatollah proud. I work, daily, to end the madness of drug war. Some day, soon I hope, I can say proudly that I stood against this enormous, societal bugaboo, that I dared to stand against the illogical, deeply entrenched, onerous, dangerous policy of drug prohibition.
