Author: Jack Baize SHAMING NECESSARY TO STOP PROSTITUTION I have heard a considerable amount of complaining regarding the methods Peoria's chief of police is using to combat prostitution. A March 9 editorial suggests that the chief is violating an individual's rights by having a name and picture publicized. I'm curious: isn't that what the newspaper and television media do when they run an article about someone being arrested for a crime? Those stories seem to continue to run, and sometimes those people are acquitted in the end. Is this not the same thing? When the public reads or hears the story, an impression is formed. If I get arrested for DUI and I don't like people talking about it, embarrassing my family, then maybe I should not have tried to drive drunk in the first place. People must ask themselves one question: Do I not want prostitution to be curtailed, or am I afraid of whose picture I might see next? Jack Baize Peoria
