HAMILTON POLICE PROJECT 24/7 GETS ILLEGAL DRUGS OFF THE STREET

The Hamilton Police Service Vice and Drugs Unit has released the totals
from a spring project code-named 24/7. The eight-week undercover project
resulted in 18 arrests, three of which were mid-level drug traffickers. The
removal of mid-level dealers from the streets means less drug availability
and a reduction in crime.

Police seized 12 ounces of crack cocaine, a kilogram of marijuana and 17.4
grams of hash. The drugs have an estimated street value of $109,970.

Twenty-five counts of trafficking were laid, along with 25 counts of
possession for the purpose of trafficking, 10 counts of possession and four
counts of production of marijuana. Police also seized five firearms.
