2 MORE KILLED VIGILANTE-STYLE

TWO more "habal-habal" (motorcycle) drivers, this year's 93rd and 94th
victims of vigilante-style killings, were gunned down by
motorcycle-riding gunmen in separate incidents Friday in Davao City
for alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

First to fall was one Rommel Mendiola, 30, of Jacona, Barangay
Panacan.

Initial investigation by Police 0fficer 3 Alfredo Heliane of the Sasa
police precinct revealed the incident happened at around 11:30 a.m.

Mendiola was playing hantak (coins game) in their place when the
gunman onboard a motorcycle arrived. The suspect approached Mendiola
and without provocation shot him several times.

Heliane said Mendiola succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in his head
and body.

Police recovered two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol and of Super
38.

Next to fall was identified as Robert Panerio, 22, of Saint Jude,
Buhangin.

Senior Police Officer 1 Alfredo Rubrico, investigator at the Buhangin
police precinct, said Panerio was shot at around 6 p.m. while driving
his motorcycle at Sizon Village in Buhangin.

Rubrico said that when Panerio reached near the store owned by Emelio
Moral Jr., the gunman reportedly approached Panerio and shot him in
his head.

The bullet entered from the left side of Panerio's head and exited in
the right side.

After the incident, the gunman reportedly sped away on board a black
Yamaha DT motorcycle.

Recovered at the scene of the crime was an empty shell of caliber .9mm
pistol.

Earlier on the same day, a farm worker of a barangay kagawad in
Calinan was believed to be the 92nd victim of summary execution in the
city.

Tony La Fuente was shot dead in front of the Calinan barangay hall
along Pinano Street at around 6:30 a.m.

La Fuente was biking his way to Calinan Public Market at the time when
two unidentified motorcycle-riding men blocked his way in front of the
Calinan Barangay Hall and shot him several times. He died on the spot.

Some people who knew La Fuente said he was a good man. But one
Raymundo Canonigo said La Fuente was once involved in illegal drugs.

Police recovered five empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol at the
scene of the crime.
