FEDERAL AGENTS FOUND MORE THAN 8 TONS OF MARIJUANA

FALFURRIAS, Texas - Federal agents found more than 8 tons of marijuana
valued at almost $14 million in a truckload of fruit, U.S. Customs and
Border Protection said Friday.

The seizure occurred about 6 a.m. Thursday at a Border Patrol
checkpoint about 75 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border.

Drug-sniffing dogs alerted agents to a tractor-trailer hauling
cantaloupes and bananas. Agents found 542 bundles of marijuana
weighing 17,297 pounds and valued at $13.8 million dollars.

The driver, a 36-year-old from Mission, Texas, was arrested and turned
over to the Drug Enforcement Administration out of Corpus Christi.
