The seizure occurred about 6 a.m. Thursday at a Border Patrol checkpoint about 75 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border. Drug-sniffing dogs alerted agents to a tractor-trailer hauling cantaloupes and bananas. Agents found 542 bundles of marijuana weighing 17,297 pounds and valued at $13.8 million dollars. The driver, a 36-year-old from Mission, Texas, was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration out of Corpus Christi. - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
