CORBY SHOW 'TRIVIALISES' SERIOUS ISSUE

The Law Council of Australia has criticised Channel Nine for its plan to
broadcast a special show about accused drug-smuggler Schapelle Corby tonight.

The show, Schapelle's Nightmare: The Untold Story, will present arguments
for and against Corby's guilt and then ask the studio audience to decide if
it thinks she is guilty.

Law Council president John North says the show could jeopardise Corby's
chances of a fair trial.

Mr North says the show trivialises and fictionalises a situation which
could end in life imprisonment for Corby.

"A court trial should only operate on evidence that is in front of the
court and any other opinions while a trial is still going on could possibly
affect the mind of the people judging the trial," he said.

A Bali court is expected to deliver its verdict in Corby's trial next week.
