FARR HONORED FOR MEDICAL POT EFFORTS

U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, joined U.S. Reps. Barney Frank, D-Mass.,
and Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., this week to highlight legislative
efforts to protect medical marijuana patients from arrest.

Farr is an original co-sponsor of the bipartisan States' Rights to
Medical Marijuana Act, which Frank introduced this week. The bill
would ensure that medical marijuana patients, as well as doctors and
pharmacists, in states with medical marijuana laws would not be
subject to prosecution under the federal Controlled Substances Act for
state authorized medical marijuana activities.

"Often people joke about marijuana, but due process and respecting
state laws is a serious issue," Farr said.

Farr received a legislative leadership award at the Marijuana Policy
Project's 10th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday primarily for legislation
he created in 2003, the Truth in Trials Act.
