DENTS DON'T PENETRATE

Editor: Re: "Drug ring bust nets 8 arrests" March 29.

Does anyone really believe prosecutors anymore when they tell us that
these arrests will "make a dent" in the problems related to the
distribution and use of narcotics?

The underground trade in drugs has had thousands of such dents over
the decades. If arrests worked, this problem should have been
eliminated years ago. All these most recent arrests have done is
create job opportunities for new "up and comers" in the trade.

It's time to look for new answers to the drug problem the same way we
did with the failed experiment of alcohol prohibition in the early
part of the last century.
