"And these are no longer Ma and Pa operations hidden away in some
basement. Today's grow operations are vastly more sophisticated than
they were 10 years ago, and the people behind them are skilled and
organized criminals." ("Grow ops rampant in Calgary," March 20.)
Actually, according to lawyers and numbers of plants seized from "grow
ops," it's still a predominantly "ma and pa" operation, contrary to
police claims which aren't based on their own statistics but instead
their opinions. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a multi
- -million dollar industry that employs more than 30% of our entire
police forces. After all, these plants are more important than child
porn enforcement, property theft, rapists and murderers, according to
the funding differences. Even crystal meth gets less attention. I
guess true danger is too dangerous.
