To The Editor:

The media wants to sell news. The politicians want attention. One sure
bet for both is the 'drug war'. But is the public getting the truth
(Canada's Pot, Ogdensburg Advance News March 6)?

Canada's Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, speaking a day after
four Mounties were killed during a raid on a marijuana grow op in
Alberta said, "Marijuana production is a violent, organized scourge
which are often backed by organized crime."

The death of the RCMP officers was a tragedy. The worst part of the
tragedy is the twist for personal political gain.

The officers were to repossess a 2005 white Ford F350 pickup on behalf
of an Edmonton dealership, not to investigate a grow op. After the
tragedy a search reviled 20 marijuana plants in a back shed, hardly
enough for personal use let alone big time organized crime.

What is the message we are sending our kids with these
