METH DANGERS FAR OUTWEIGH ILLOGICAL CLAIMS OF LEGALIZATION

Methamphetamine is everywhere, it seems, kind of the way beer and
cigarettes used to be a major temptation for young people. Only with
meth, the consequences of its use go far beyond a hangover and bad
breath.

As the Globe-News' Joe Chapman reported this past Saturday,
Amarillo-area youngsters who are able to acquire meth can purchase,
transport and then use the stuff with "convenience."

Meth causes a temporary sensation of euphoria. Oh, but that's not all.
It causes weight loss, rotting teeth, loss of hair, blisters and pimples.

Isn't that a great way to get high? And just think: Some folks want to
legalize it.

What a crock.

Meth is a scourge and a plague on our community.

Potter and Randall County law enforcement authorities have their hands
full dealing with meth-related crime. And spare the argument that if
society decriminalizes the drug that we can treat it as a "medical
problem."

The problems associated with meth use are well-documented and its
drain on the medical infrastructure is known.

Law enforcement should continue to apply the pressure on the meth
producers and merchants who seek to sell it to our children.

It's everywhere - and it's fully capable of destroying anyone it
touches.
