CORRECTIONS OFFICER ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

PERRY - A joint law-enforcement sting Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a
corrections officer accused of funneling drugs into the state prison in
Unadilla.

Perry police Capt. Bill Phelps said Thursday that Eric Woods Blackshear,
28, of 800 Leisure Lake Drive in Warner Robins, was charged with possession
of more than an ounce of marijuana. Blackshear also was charged with
possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and giving inmates drugs
without the permission of the warden, Phelps said.

Blackshear's arrest came after the Dooly State Prison warden approached
Perry police about information that Blackshear was allegedly funneling
drugs into the prison.

Phelps and Perry Detective Drew Dodson investigated the complaint, and with
the aid of a GBI agent, set up a sting operation in Perry.

The GBI agent posed as a family member of an inmate who was to give
Blackshear drugs and money, Phelps said. Blackshear was to keep the money
in exchange for passing on the marijuana to an inmate, Phelps said.

Blackshear was arrested at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday at a location in Perry,
Phelps said. Blackshear is free on a $11,000 bond.

All charges against Blackshear are felonies, Phelps said.
