DRUGS

HOW much money and effort are the Chinese expending on drug control and port
surveillance in their own country? Why should a small country like New
Zealand have to spend huge amounts of money on border control to stop a
flood of dangerous drugs from a country out of control where drug
manufacturing seems to be a corporate business? I suggest, included in Prime
Minister Helen Clark's free trade deal with the Chinese government, should
be a clause imposing huge fines, like the seizure of illegal fishing boats,
telling them this is unacceptable to New Zealand. We are now seeing the
totally mad sort of crimes associated with this new drug and it is surely
time to give the Chinese government some hard words.
