POLICE, POSO IN ALL-OUT DRIVE VS. STREET CRIMES

IMMEDIATELY upon assuming as acting mayor last week, Vice Mayor Alvin
Fernandez ordered the Dagupan police station and the Public Order and
Safety Office (POSO) to act on the rising incidence of street crimes in the
city.

He issued the order to Supt. Candito Quijardo, police chief; and Robert
Erfe-Mejia, POSO chief, in the face of rising street crimes in the city
which include cell phone snatching, bag slashing and other petty crimes.

"There shall be more visibility of uniformed police personnel in different
areas of concern or places where suspects usually strike,"
Fernandez ordered, adding that both the police and POSO immediately
combine their forces.

Fernandez said he wants to see the day the street crimes in the city drop
to zero.

Fernandez ordered Quijardo to furnish him a list of detailed police
officers in areas of responsibility to enable him (Fernandez) to monitor
the situation.

But the police and POSO must not only concentrate on ordinary street crimes
but also major crimes like the continuing summary execution of suspected
drug dealers in the city.

Recently, two more bodies were found dead in Bonuan, believed to have been
victims of alleged vigilante group.

Killed last Friday night was Brando Ramirez, 42, whose body was dumped
near the golf course in Bonuan Binloc. Five days later, one Renato Mararac
of Bonuan Gueset was shot dead by unidentified gunman on Ayusip road in
Bonuan. Both were identified police characters.
