ILLICIT USE OF PRESCRIPTIONS TO OBTAIN HALLUCINOGENS ON RISE

TOKYO -- A survey by a Japanese pharmaceutical group has found at
least 128 cases over three and a half years from 2001 in which drugs
producing hallucinations were obtained through illicit use of
prescriptions.

The drug agents included methylphenidate hydrochloride -- a stimulant
sold under the product name Ritalin -- and triazolam, sold as Halcion,
the Japan Pharmaceutical Association said in its survey for all 47
prefectural governments.
