DRUG DRIVE NEEDS LOCAL EXECS' HELP

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National
Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force yesterday
urged anew local government officials to help them detect shabu
laboratories by keeping suspicious warehouses and other establishments
under close watch.

"We are banking on the close cooperation of mayors, barangay officials
and the community in this crackdown," said PDEA chair Anselmo S. Avenido Jr.

AIDSOTF commander Deputy Director General Ricardo F. de Leon echoed
Avenido's appeal.

"A regular inspection of these establishments would help deter drug
syndicates from operating secret shabu labs right under the noses of
local authorities," De Leon said.

Avenido said the informant whose tip led to the discovery of another
shabu lab in Valenzuela City Friday would receive about P1 million as
a reward under the PDEA's Operation Private Eye.

Oplan Private Eye provides cash incentives to private citizens who
would provide information that will lead to a successful drug bust or
arrest of drug personalities. The identities of the informants are
kept under utmost secrecy.

Combined agents of the PDEA, PNP and the National Bureau of
Investigation raided Friday an abandoned shabu laboratory in
Valenzuela City where they discovered an estimated P2 billion worth of
finished shabu, its precursors and manufacturing equipment.

Found inside the lab located at no. 246 S. de Guzman Street, Fortune
Seven Subdivision in Barangay Parada, Valenzuela City were a huge
volume of shabu precursors and other chemicals and manufacturing
equipment and paraphernalia and four drums of liquefied shabu weighing
about 800 kilograms.
