DRUGS: LOTS OF REASONS FOR DRUGS

Dear Editor,

Ken Marsh stated that he "knows" that there is only one purpose for
ingesting any drug: "to eliminate or minimize pain and discomfort
connected to living in a human body."

What about the purpose of achieving good health - a positive state of
well-being (happiness, even joy)?

What about the purpose of discovering new ideas? Is he saying humans
aren't supposed to seek well-being, or to exercise our power of
imagination?

I don't mind someone being prejudicial, arbitrary, or discriminatory.
I do mind an economic system that profits from both creating and
treating sickness, a sickness care system disguised as a health care
system, and a political system that denies its citizens the right to
pursue happiness.

I do mind a law that forbids me from wandering in the fields of my own
imagination without harm to myself or anyone else, particularly when
section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom
of thought. What con is this?

DAVID GEORGE
