DOCTORS SHOULD HELP COMBAT DRUG ABUSE

To the editor:

It was simple for me, as a retired police officer, to predict the rise
in smuggling methedrine across the Rio Grande.

The DEA estimates that 60 to 80 percent of meth now is imported from
Mexico.

Law enforcement efforts continue to be as effective as a mosquito on
an elephant.

As legal drugs kill at a ratio of 55:1 over illegal drugs, someone
explain why my profession is chasing drug users.

Shouldn't doctors chase drug users?
