'DRUG PROOF KIDS' TRAINING COMING TO ALDERGROVE

RCMP Drug and Organized Crime Awareness, in partnership with Langley
School District #35, Langley RCMP Detachment and How to Drug Proof
Your Kids (DPYK) announce the training of additional facilitators,
December 2-3 at the Aldergrove Community Police Office.

How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK) is a community-based program that
equips parents and caregivers with tools and strategies, enabling them
to strengthen their families and more effectively steer their children
away from the harmful use of drugs.

It's not just about kids saying "no". It's about equipping parents
with the tools to teach discernment.

DPYK complements the new DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
program, a social skills program which seeks to provide children with
information and skills needed to live drug and violence free. Students
are taught to use a four-step decision-making model to make healthy
choices and take charge of their lives.

Langley School District leads with full support of both DARE and DPYK,
giving its students the best possible chance to live drug and violence
free.

There will be participants from Hope, Langley and Ridge-Meadows
Detachments, including police officers, auxiliary constables and
community police volunteers.

In addition, parents from numerous Langley schools will be training as
facilitators, sponsored by their school Parent Advisory Councils.

These committed parents and community volunteers will then lead a
six-week program for parents in their respective communities.

For further information, call Kristen Prediger, DPYK Program
Coordinator at 604-539-7917 or Cst. Marianne Farmer, Drug & Organized
Crime Awareness, 604-619-8194.
