DRUG CONFERENCE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

You have heard the messages over and over, yet it cannot be
overstated enough -- illegal drugs do pose a problem.

Yes, there is much debate of the decriminalization of marijuana and
the theory harder drugs would not be as destructive and attractive if
they were not illegal but the facts remain.

Many communities have suffered through debilitating stretches where
violent crime takes a hold as the drug culture grows in prominence.

The problem arises in the addictive nature of certain drugs,
substances which can drive the most sane and rational person into
near insanity, or worse.

There are many theories as to why one gets involved with illegal
drugs in the first place.

Peer pressure, depression or simply just having an addictive
personality have all been listed as possible causes.

Whatever the case, communities need to be proactive in the fight
against substance they feel will ultimately have a very negative
impact on their communities.

As many other towns and cities have experienced, waiting until a
problem arrives and flourishes is often much too late.

Taber is taking a proactive approach toward its problem, and make no
mistake, it is a problem.

We can sit back behind the comfort of the walls in our homes and make
ourselves believe drug use does not take place in our town.

We can convince ourselves all we want illegal drugs will never impact
our lives, but do you want to take that chance?

The drug conference, Hooked on Hope, hosted by the Taber Community
Against Drugs, will feature many great guest speakers and the chance
to learn more about the drug trade, and how it may impact you.

Thursday night and Friday's activities will provide valuable insight
on what to look for and how drugs can impact our lives.

It is an opportunity Taberites should not pass up.

It represents the first chance locals will have to hear from a number
of experts, all in one building, on a topic which should be of great interest.

So, take in the conference, get informed and help make a difference
in your community.
