EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT METH ...

If crystal methamphetamine isn't yet the drug of choice, it likely
soon will be.

It's cheap, accessible, and easy to manufacture - the cornerstones of
all successful chemical killers doled out to our kids.

There are a couple of important initiatives to be aware of. First, the
school district is embarking on a bold, comprehensive curriculum that
can be taught in our schools and cover children from K to 12.

It's the first step toward preventing drug addiction and the difficult
stages of treatment that would otherwise result.

All the community partners and the school district itself should be
congratulated for taking this step that was a long time coming.

The other initiative is a forum planned for this evening at Harrison
Memorial Hall. Special guests, including one recovered addict, will
provide the audience with a personal view of the destruction and
tragedy this drug -- and others -- leaves in its wake.

It is an opportunity for everyone to draw a complete understanding of
what is at stake in our schools and in our communities.

It's easy to turn away from a problem when it's not staring you in the
face, but chances are you have met or know someone caught up in a
crystal meth addiction.

The wide-reaching implications if this problem is ignored are
enormous.

You owe it to yourself and to your community to be in Harrison
tonight.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Among the presenters will be Bill Turner
from Community Services, who has dedicated himself to helping people
caught up in addictions and educating the rest of us about the issue.
