A HEARTFELT WISH FROM THE PUBLISHER

It was mid-November when local teen Breanna Zorisky was found dead in a
Duncan apartment.

The official cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but those close to her
believe drugs were responsible.

Breanna's story was not exactly the inspiration for what you are now
reading, but it certainly drove home why it is necessary.

Drug and alcohol use is part of society, part of our community.

But drug and alcohol abuse comes with a cost and it's something we should
be talking about.

I'd like to thank the sponsors whose support has allowed us to bring this
important publication to you. And I'd also like to thank the staff of the
News Leader/Pictorial for the their effort and creativity - particularly
Angie Poss and Andrew Leong.

We first told you Breanna's story in December. We reprint it here because
it is poignant statement about how terribly wrong things can go. It's a
story about doors better left closed, but one we hope can open other doors
in our community - ones that should be opened.

It is your invitation into a series of stories we hope will inspire people
to think and talk about drug and alcohol use and abuse.

If it stops one person from following Breanna's path then we will consider
our effort to have been a successful one.
