'DANGEROUS' CULTURE AT JAIL COMES AS NO SURPRISE

The expression "beating a dead horse" certainly applies to the
county's ongoing conversation and waste of taxpayer dollars regarding
the culture at the jail.

The consultant that the county hired for $150,000 of our tax money
described the culture at the Alachua County Jail as "potentially
dangerous." What a unique and insightful conclusion!

Let's see, you gather together murderers, thieves, drug dealers, child
molesters, wife beaters, drunks and other specimens of society's least
desirable citizens who have broken the law, then you house them in the
county jail. I can't think of a more wholesome environment for the
creation of a culture that generates goodwill, peacefulness and
intellectual stimulation.

Commissioner Long thinks the assessment of the jail was a great
exercise and that it opens up a dialogue in the community about what's
going on at the jail. If you want to know what is going on at the jail
just ask elementary school children. They will probably tell you it's
where you put "bad people."

I'll pay for the lollipops as a reward for their contributions to a
community dialogue.
