DRUGS AFFECT 88 BOHOL VILLAGES

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol - At least 88 barangays in Bohol are considered
seriously affected by problems on illegal drugs and 39 more are
threatened to be affected, said Bohol Provincial Police Office Chief
Sancho Bernales.

In his annual accomplishment report, Bernales stated that 7.93 percent
of Bohol's 1,109 barangays have been considered seriously affected by
illegal drugs, and added that his command is now doing its best to
solve the problem. He said that due to the intensified campaign of
authorities here, the supply of illegal drugs in the affected
barangays has noticeably decreased.

The BPPO director said that 72 anti-drug operations were conducted
under his command in 2004, resulting in the arrest of 100 persons,
seizure of 55 grams of shabu, several stalks of marijuana plans, and
several grams of dried marijuana leaves. In addition to drug
paraphernalia, the anti-illegal drugs operations also resulted in the
confiscation of R104,658.75 in marked money and proceeds from the drug
trade.
