GRANS HIT THE HEADLINES

Two grannies have made the headlines this week. One is determined to
take no prisoners and the other seems determined to become one. In the
case of Nancy Ord, she has told the nation how angry she is that her
conman grandson has taken UKP 22,000 of her hard earned savings and
that she'll have to wait until she's 161 before it's paid back at the
rate of UKP 5 per month. To be ripped off by your family is a hard
pill to swallow.

Meanwhile, pensioner Patricia Tabram seems determined to go to jail
rather than give up her fondness for cooking with cannabis.

In the first case, Nancy is like so many victims of crime, ultimately
there is no recompense. As for Patricia, who is already under a
suspended sentence for possession, what are the authorities to do with
her?

Should she go to prison? What purpose would it serve? And if she
doesn't, how can the same authorities take credible measures against
those who also grow cannabis?

Who was it who said "Granny knows best"?
