POLICE FIND 8,100 MARIJUANNA PLANTS

From Aug. 8 to 12, the Ontario Police Drug Enforcement Section Members as
well as the Emergency Response Team Members conducted a Marihuana
Eradication program in Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce Counties and seized a
number of marijuanna plants from farmers fields.

During that period officers seized in excess of 8,100 marihuana plants from
farmers fields and bush lots. Police estimate the drugs value to be over
$8,100,000.

Officers have arrested and charged three males for offenses under the
Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and seized two stolen ATV's and a farm
tractor.

Over 3,000 of the seized marihuana plants were found in Huron County.

The illegal marijuanna will be ready to harvest sometime later this month
or in September. The OPP are asking farmers in rural Ontario to report any
suspicious activity they may see around the farm.

All farmers are asked to check their crops and bush lots and if they come
across marihuana plants on their property to immediately call the OPP at
1-888-310-1122 for the eradication of the plants.

Last week Huron OPP received several calls from farmers throughout the
county about these problems. Hundreds more marijuanna plants have been
found and destroyed.
