VIGILANTES KILL 5 IN ONE DAY IN DAVAO

DAVAO CITY , Davao del Sur, Philippines -- A president of a vendors
association, two gang members, a laborer, and a cockfight aficionado
were killed by suspected vigilantes in separate attacks here Saturday.

The deaths bring to 32 the total number of vigilante-related killings
in the city this month.

Police identified the latest victim as Roland Tordel, 33, of Sto.
Rosario, Buhangin District.

Tordel and his companion, Eduardo Geronimo, had just left the Buhangin
cockpit arena along the Diversion Road at around 8:45 p.m. and were
about to board their motorcycle when an unidentified man approached
them and shot Tordel twice.

Although wounded, Tordel managed to run, but the gunman caught up with
him and finished him off, police said.

At 6:30 p.m., Manuel Bandayanon was also shot and killed along Sta.
Ana Avenue.

Bandayanon, 33, a worker of Sulpicio Lines and Shipping Co., was on
his way home when two men on board a motorcycle appeared from behind
him and shot him twice.

Mamayandang Dima, 50, president of the Muslim-Christian Vendors
Association, of Bankerohan, Barangay 5-A, was killed at around 7 a.m.
Dima was sitting on a bench when two men riding on a motorcycle shot
him.

SPO1 Jay Rueben Plaza, San Pedro police investigator, said Dima's
killing could have something to do with his position as vendors
association president.

Plaza said it was "remote" that the victim was involved in illegal
drugs.

At 12:05 a.m., Jeffrey del Rio, 24, and Lyndon Lumanta, 18, alleged
members of the teenage DRB (Disenteng Rugby Boys) Gang, were shot dead
along Solid Street, Barangay Wilfredo Aquino, Agdao District.

other gang members, were walking on the street when two unidentified
men alighted from a Nissan van and shot them.
