DRUG CENTRE FEARS RAISED

Chinley residents have voiced fears over the number of recovering drug
addicts being treated at a centre in the village.

More than 20 locals lobbied a Parish Council meeting on Thursday because
they had heard the clinic on Station Road was to expand its operations.

Graham Hewitt, from Station Road, said the centre on his street housed four
recovering drug addicts already - and believed the organisation which used
it was looking at ways of increasing the number of people being treated there.

"There has been absolutely no consultation; no leafleting about it being
brought to the village," added Mr Hewitt.

"It is totally unsuitable for a small village, I know a lot of people do
not like it."

Keith Forster, from Station Road, said: "We have not got the infrastructure
in this village to deal with it. We have not got a policeman within 35
minutes of this."

Cllr Phil Manford said he had contacted High Peak Borough Council, which
rules on planning, but the authority did not know about an application for
alterations.

And Cllr Sally Fuller said that Chinley itself was not drug free and the
clinic would help addicts.
