POT ARREST FURORE

B.C.'s own "Prince of Pot" will have his day in court after being arrested
over the weekend.

Marc Emery, leader of the B.C. Marijuana Party, is expected in B.C. Supreme
Court today for his bail hearing after being arrested in Halifax on Friday.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration wants Emery and two co-defendants,
Greg Williams and Michelle Rainey, extradited to face prosecution in
Seattle over charges of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana
seeds and money laundering. The RCMP helped out in the arrest, which
enraged Kirk Tousaw of the Marijuana Party.

"We know the U.S. has different points of view on social issues, but we do
not accept the U.S. is entitled to come into our country an tell us how to
run our affairs," Tousaw told 24 hours yesterday

But the DEA claims seeds sold by Emery's online business,
www.emeryseeds.com, are used in illegal pot crops in the U.S.

Emery faces life in prison in the U.S. if he's extradited.

Meanwhile, Vision Vancouver mayoral candidate Jim Green and NPA Coun. Sam
Sullivan remained neutral in their comments, although both have thrown
their support behind liberal initiatives including Vancouver's proposed new
drug policy report, which recommends the legalization of marijuana.
