2 ARRESTED IN METH BUST

Seizure of 9 Ounces of 'Ice' Believed to Be Escambia's Largest

Two men were being held without bond Saturday night at Escambia County
Jail on charges associated with what could be the county's largest
seizure of pure methamphetamine, known commonly as "ice," said
Escambia sheriff's spokesman Capt. Joel Mooneyham.

Agents with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration on Friday
arrested [two names and ages deleted] both believed to be Mexican
nationals, on narcotics-related charges.

[name deleted] was taken into custody at a hotel on U.S. 29, where agents
seized 9 ounces of "ice" -- the pure, smokeable form of
methamphetamine -- with an estimated street value of $50,000,
Mooneyham said.

[name deleted] was arrested in the [address deleted],
where authorities believe the two men reside. The arrest was made
after agents seized 3 kilograms of cocaine valued at $250,000; two
fully automatic handguns -- an Uzi and a Mac 90; two automobiles, and
$20,000, Mooneyham said.

Officers with the Escambia County Narcotics Task Force, the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement, the DEA and the federal Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms participated in the bust, Mooneyham said.

The case is the second of its kind to develop in the area during the
past two weeks. In an unrelated case on June 21, a Santa Rosa County
couple were arrested on felony methamphetamine trafficking charges.
