DEMONS URGE AFL TO EXPLAIN DRUG STANCE

Melbourne coach Neale Daniher believes football fans deserve to know
the reasons behind the AFL's stance on drug use.

The AFL has refused to sign a worldwide anti-doping code, with the
deadline just two days away.

The league fears agreeing to the code would go against its Collective
Bargaining Agreement with the AFL Players' Association.

Demons chairman Paul Gardner has reportedly accused the AFL of being
soft on illicit drug use, but Daniher says he is sure the league has a
good explanation.

"I think the footy fans would like to know what are the reasons, is it
just because of the deal with the AFL players or are there other
reasons?" he said.

"I'm sure that they'll, in time - and hopefully the short distant time
- - be able to inform not only the football clubs but I think the wider
football public, the reasons behind their stance."
